With the year winding to a close, it’s time to think about the highlights of 2016 … the unforgettable moments, and no, I’m not just talking about Brexit and Trump.
My best moments of 2016 will be coming over to you in a post very soon … and there’s some good gems. But for now, it’s time for my other favourite things of the year.
It’s not necessarily just new discoveries from this year, but the things I’ve really enjoyed this year.
The Book – This is the year I rediscovered my love for my local library, and read many books – from Laura Jane Williams’ Becoming: Sex, Second Chances, and Figuring Out Who the Hell I Am and Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert.
But I absolutely loved devouring Emma Gannon’s Ctrl Alt Delete: How I Grew Up Online in less than 24 hours. It’s written so well and hilarious, I’d recommend it to anyone of the MSN generation.
The Songs – A tough cookie of a category. I haven’t really followed chart music since I was 14, so this was never going to be filled with recent chart-toppers (although Chainsmokers have been a guilty pleasure this year).
I love the songs that accompany mine and my friends’ reunions. You know, the kind of songs that play in the bar you’re sitting in, and months down the line you’re reminded of that moment whenever the song is played. I’m talking Love Generation, You’re a Superstar … that kinda thing.
The Gadget – Even though running has taken a bit of a back seat at the tail end of the year, I’ve absolutely loved my Garmin Forerunner 15 for tracking all my routes and times. It does everything it says on the tin, and I’ve always found it to be really accurate. A bit of a bargain really.
The Podcast – I’m still a podcast newbie, but I discovered Lady Lovin’ this year – the brain child of Lo Bosworth of The Hills and her two best friends Jilly and Greta, where each week they share tales on being young women in New York. Dating bad boys, periods to marriage and behind the scenes of Hillary for America, they cover the lot.
It’s a bit like listening to your BFFs have a chat, and I suppose that’s why I like listening to the latest drop on Friday afternoons, just as the working week is winding down.
What have been some of your favourite things of 2016?
